UAE Cycling Federation’s Inaugural 2-stage Dubai Eye 103.8 ‘UAE Road Cycling Championship’ will be decided, alongside the Dubai-stage winners, on Friday March 9th 2018, at Dubai Sports City, Dubai.
After a thrilling Abu Dhabi Daman Active Life stage 1 raced from the iconic Louvre museum to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on January 26th, podium finishes (for stage 1) were secured by Simon Henley in the Men’s Open, Majed Aljahoori claiming the Emirati Men’s top spot, Mehnaz Kamali striding to Emirati Women’s glory and Olga Jantuganova winning Women’s Open, however, the overall Champions titles still remain wide open.
With both the Dubai-Stage glory as well as the overall Champions titles on the line, the winners and place-getters from Abu Dhabi’s Daman Active Life stage 1 will have their sights firmly set on throwing down the gauntlet to their fellow competitors in their bid to cement their status amongst UAE’s cyclists, in what is anticipated as a hotly contested Dubai stage, starting and finishing in the residential precinct of Dubai Sports City.
“We are looking forward to the Dubai stage and to crowning both the Dubai stage winners and the Inaugural Overall UAE Road Cycling Champions. We are delighted that this stage will start and finish in Dubai Sports City’s residential precinct and encourage both the Sports City community, and the wider cycling community to come together at the post-Race Village to celebrate not only the stage and Championship’s winners, but to enjoy the lifestyle and activity that our sport offers.” said Osama Al Shafar, President UAE Cycling Federation. “We are very pleased to have the support from Dubai Eye 103.8 and, through this partnership we are excited to bring the chance for UAE’s cyclists to listen in (to 103.8) for the chance to win a place in the Championship’s Dubai stage.” added Al Shafar.
As with the Abu Dhabi stage, Dubai’s stage will be held on open-roads with Police-managed rolling closures to ensure the safety of cyclists competing in the Championship.
Open to all amateur and experienced cyclists across the UAE, aged 16 years and over with age category glory for males and females up for grabs as the minor competitions, the intent will be palpable across the peloton for championship accolades to all age category winners. The challenge event sees all finishers receive medals, while the Dubai stage-winners and the overall Champions will be recognised at the final stage. Stages are timed using ProChip by Sports Timing Services, the lowest accumulating time over the two stages will decide the Dubai Eye 103.8 Inaugural UAE Road Cycling Championship (2018) Champions.
