To be raced over a 103.8-kilometer course on Dubai’s Roads, starting and finishing at Dubai Sports City’s Sports Park, Dubai Sports City’s Stage Four is all set to celebrate its stage victors as well as crown the overall Champions of the 2018 / 2019 Championship.
“Rounding out this season’s four-stage Championship with a 103.8 kilometer road race on Dubai’s roads is a very fitting salute to our competing cyclists, and to the sport.” said Jeff O’Brien, Managing Partner Onside Sports and UAE Road Cycling Championship organizer. “Dubai Sports City is a fantastic community and we are very pleased that they will, once again, play host to final stage. And, bringing another level to the Championship, and the community, we are delighted to announce our partnership with the popular, family-focused Dubai Pulse Ride, which will be hosted on the same day at the same venue and we encourage everyone within the wider-community to join us to cheer on our competing cyclists as they sprint for victory (in both the stage and overall categories) as well as join in the post-race community celebrations.”
Speaking about this season’s edition O’Brien added; “We have been very encouraged by, and grateful for the support we have received from the wider cycling community, as well as the interest and commitment in the Championship from this season’s sponsors and authorities (from each Emirate).”
Taking their Leaders’ jersey’s into the final stage are Roisin Thomas (Expatriate Female), Rashid Al Baloushi (Social Emirati Male), Khalid Mayouf (Emirati Clubs Male), and Sam Stollery (Expatriate Male), where their sights will be firmly set on securing their ‘UAE National Champion’s’ Titles.
Titles of the 2018/2019 UAE Road Cycling Championship’s four main categories will be decided via a points system, and follow the British Cycling Points System (NAT A Road Category). Main categories are; Open Emirati Male (Clubs), Social Emirati Male, Open Expatriate Male and Open Expatriate Female, where the cumulative-points leader of each main category will receive and wear the leader’s jersey, stage winners and stage age-division winners will be recognised (at each stage). Overall Champions will take their ‘Champion’s Jersey’ and title through to the 2019/2020 Championship, as well as receive a Champion’s cheque.
As with the Inaugural series (held early 2018) all stages will be raced on open-roads with Police-managed rolling closures to ensure the safety of cyclists competing in the Championship.
