Henley leads the pack in Inaugural UAE Cycling Federation Dubai Eye 103.8 UAE Road Cycling Championship
Daman ActiveLife Abu Dhabi stage-one took place on Friday January 26th
Simon Henley took both stage and age honours and leads the Inaugural UAE Cycling Federation Dubai Eye 103.8 UAE Road Race Championship finishing the 64k Abu Dhabi Daman Active Life course, along Yas Island starting from the iconic Louvre Abu Dhabi, in 1 hour 27 minutes 42 seconds.
After a one-and-a-half hour delay due to a dense, determined fog that settled over the capital in the early hours of Friday morning, and with rider safety paramount the Abu Dhabi police ultimately felt confident with visibility, and gave the go ahead for the equally determined riders to get underway.
The overall Open Category in Abu Dhabi’s Daman Active Life stage saw Henley finish ahead of David Williams and Danil Evdokimov, Evdokimov also claimed the 16-18 age group medal. In the Emirati Men’s category Majed Aljahoori lifted the trophy with Khalfan Salman Al Sabri finishing in second and Mansoor Salman Al Sabri in third.
Mehnaz Kamali claimed the Emirati Ladies title crossing the line in 2 hours 2 minutes 52 seconds. In the Open Women’s category Olga Jantuganova claimed the top podium spot leading Diana Adelshinova and Sarah Butler over the line. Jantuganova, Adelshinova and Butler claimed the honours in their age-groups as well.
