UAE Cycling Federation announce Inaugural UAE Road Cycling Championship

Championship to take place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai during the first quarter of 2018

Championship open to all Amateur Cyclists in the UAE

Main categories are Emirati Men, Emirati Women, Expatriate Men and Expatriate Women


UAE, Dubai, Sunday December 24th, 2017: UAE Cycling Federation have today announced the Inaugural ‘UAE Road Cycling Championship’ will take place during the first quarter of 2018, in the UAE.

In a first for the UAE, the 2-stage Championship will be held on Friday January 26th, 2018 in Abu Dhabi, and Friday March 9th, 2018 in Dubai, and is intended to be the premier amateur cycling event on the UAE Cycling Federation’s calendar.

Open to all amateur cyclists, the main categories for the inaugural Championship are; Emirati Men, Emirati Women, Expatriate Men and Expatriate Women. Each stage will see a stage-winner crowned with the UAE Road Cycling Championships Champions being awarded after the 2nd stage in Dubai.

“We are delighted to bring the Inaugural UAE Road Cycling Championships to the UAE. Cycling is already a very popular sport for our Expatriate community and it has grown in incredible numbers over the past few years among Emiratis.” said Osama Al Shafar, President UAE Cycling Federation. “The Federation understands the importance of ensuring our amateur cycling community are able to compete in professionally managed events and be recognised for their achievements, (and) we are very excited to now be able to crown UAE Champions through the UAE Road Cycling Championships.”

A challenge event will be held for all cyclists aged 16 to 18 (years) which forms an integral part of the Inaugural Championship and where all finishers will receive medals.

As well as each stage finishing with a photo-finish, stages will be timed using Mylaps ProChip by Sports Timing Services, where points will be accumulated from both stages to decide the 2018 UAE Road Cycling Championship Champions (from each category).

Both stages will be held on open-roads with Police-managed rolling closures to ensure the safety of cyclists competing in the Championship stages.
